How to Use a Claymore

Have you ever wanted to learn how to use a claymore, here in Glasgow? Come along to the Vanguard Centre, near the city centre, and learn the historical fighting methods of the claymore.

The claymore is the Scottish basket-hilted broadsword. Although many people use the term to refer to the Scottish two-handed longsword, this is a Victorian usage of the word; the Highlanders of the 17th and 18th centuries typically used the basket-hilted broadsword and would call it the claymore. For more information about this matter of terminology, please see this blog article on What is a “Claymore”?, written by one of our own instructors.

If any of this interests you, then come along to our Introduction to HEMA class for a fun overview of traditional documented European martial arts, or come to our Scottish broadsword class to delve into the use of the basket-hilted broadsword. Please see our regular weekly schedule for when the different classes are running during the week.

Send us an email or give us a call if you would like to ask any questions beforehand, or just swing by and speak to the instructor on the night.
