Sword and buckler was a popular and common combination for people to use in the 14th and 15th centuries. The buckler, a small shield, gave protection to the sword-hand so that the user could avoid injury during a bout.
We draw our information about fencing with the sword and buckler from medieval source material, including the 14th century MS I.33 and the 15th century treatise by Andre Lignitzer.
Training with separate objects in each hand is an excellent way to build and improve your coordination and balance! Although demanding on the arms at first, you will quickly notice your strength and stamina improving.
