The Scottish Longsword Advancement Programme: The SLAP! Surprise Edition!
Jumping in before the May SLAP! hosted by The Institute of Historical Arts in Dundee, The Vanguard Centre is proud to host Jeff Tsay, chief instructor of Forte Swordplay from Boston, USA for one day of intermediate and advanced level German Longsword.
Jeff has a wealth of experience in all aspects of HEMA, from the obvious fencing and study of sources, to competing, running a club, raising a team of instructors, and teaching regularly at home and abroad at specialist events like Fightcamp and HEMAC-Dijon.
This event will be a deliberately tailored workshop in extrapolating the best lesson we can from the sources, focusing on the Art of Combat by Joachim Meyer, but with attention paid to preceding and related fencing masters for context, comparison and clarity. Part of the workshop will focus on advanced flow-drills, and using the practised motions to enhance our fencing and sparring through complete physical application.

The day of workshops will run from 09.30am to 6.00pm, with breaks throughout.
Afterwards, we invite practitioners out to a evening of dinner and drinks with the organisers and guest instructors at a private bar, with food and beverages available.

£60 for members of The Vanguard Centre or affiliated AHA clubs
£65 for guests of other HEMA organisations
There are a maximum of 30 tickets available for the seminar, due to available space in The Vanguard Centre. If there is high enough demand, we may look into extending the event to a second day and providing more tickets.
Attendees must have personal martial arts practise insurance to take part in this event.
