Description
Henry Angelo was the son of Domenico Angelo, a respected Italian fencing master who took his method for Smallsword to Great Britain in the mid 18th Century. Henry preserved his legacy and expanded his school in London in the early 1800s –ย eventually working with the local army regiments and officer training schools, and publishing well rounded and widely regarded manuals on both the thrusting sword and the broadsword for military use.
We have taken up Angelo junior’s methods for a short course in Napoleonic Broadsword and Sabre, with fundamental and vital material for the novice fencer, and a few new tricks for our established old guard.
Basic equipment will be provided by the Vanguard Centre as part of the course, but suitable clothing and footwear must be brought by each participant.
The course will cost ยฃ64 for 4 lessons over 4 weeks, with entrance available for purchase through our online shop. Discounts are available for existing members of The Vanguard Centre or Academy of Historical Arts.
The lessons are scheduled at 7.30pm on Wednesdays, on the 6th, 13th, 20th & 27th of August, 2025, but new attendees who have not been to The Vanguard Centre before are invited to arrive early at 7.15pm on the first day of the course to get an orientation around the centre and get fitted for equipment.
As an addition, students may wish to purchase a facsimile of one of the original
