Description

Mark Wilkie of The Institute for Historical Arts in Dundee will be joining us on Sunday 5th February 2023 for a workshop and sparring session aimed at improving our competitive and non-compliant fencing.

Mark will take us through some training and sparring games to help us be more decisive and successful in our fencing against an uncooperative adversary, and how to fence cleanly for the benefit of referees, judges and coaches to monitor your fencing. This class will be of most use for fencers wishing to enter the tournament scene this year, but will also be valuable for everyone at sparring level so you can apply the mechanics and techniques you learn in class drills into the situations of actual fighting.
The workshop will of value to fencers studying longsword, sabre and broadsword, but there will be useful lessons and games for all HEMA disciplines. The sparring will be more open and people are encouraged to play with whatever they have some training in!

The workshop will run from 1.30pm in the afternoon to 3.30pm, and then we will commence into sparring games and coaching to help until 6.30pm. The venue will be in use by a private function until 1.00pm, so please do not arrive to sign in until 1.15pm

Places are limited, with a maximum of 20 tickets available, due to space in the venue.

The price for pre-booking through the website is ยฃ15 for AHA and Vanguard Centre members, and this will guarantee your place at the event. If there are any tickets left, then non-members can join us for ยฃ20.
